Nogal

Like White Oaks, Nogal started as a mining town. Gold was first discovered there in 1886 by R.C. Parsons and soon the well known Parsons Gold Mine was created. The area was actively mined from 1887 to 1933 with a total of 199 mines and 7,863 claims made over the years. The scenic drive south on Nogal Canyon Rd, will take by classic pioneer homes with old apple orchards as you enter the Lincoln National Forest. Nogal Peak is a popular destination for hikers & four wheelers, and from the top of the peak, you can see the long dark streak of the Carrizozo Malpais (lava flow) and the White Sands National Monument located beyond Alamogordo. The area is also great for camping and horse back riding under a canopy of Ponderosa Pine and Oak with sprinkles of Maple and Apple Trees with the occasional berry bush. The name "Nogal" means walnut in Spanish.

There is a post office in Nogal and a community water system, but the area is not incorporated.  If you are looking for a home or land in a rural area with beautiful views, you may want to take a look around Nogal.
