A log home in the mountains gives a sense of nostalgia, a connection with the surroundings, and permanence. Log construction if one the oldest building forms on earth – shelter made from peeled trees, notched on end and chinked with mud, rock and mortar. Today’s log homes range from simple rustic construction, to high end custom homes found in some of the Rocky Mountain’s most expensive resort markets. True log home construction can be quite rare in many areas, even New Mexico. Owners often opt for “log look” siding ( dimensional boards milled to look like logs ) or boards with tree bark still in place, rather than true logs. Construction of true log homes can take considerably longer, and cost more than stick frame homes using log look siding.
- High ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors and a large rock fireplace lend well to the open floor plan of this log home.
