Background information on Mississippi:
The name "Mississippi" is derived from an Indian word meaning "great waters" or "father of waters." Admitted to the union as the 20th state in 1817, Mississippi covers an area of 48,434 square miles and is the 32ns largest state in the US. The state is primarily based in farming and agriculture with crops such as cotton, corn, soybeans and rice. Oil production is a major industry with some of the states oil field offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. Major Rivers in this state include the Mississippi River, Big Black River, Pearl River, & Yazoo River, While some of the more notable lakes are Ross Barnett Reservoir, Arkabutla Lake, Sardis Lake, and Grenada Lake.
