Located in the Sacramento Mountains of South Central New Mexico, Ruidoso has been a favorite resort destination for many years. Today, the area has grown into more than just a travel destination, and has become home to many residents who have retired, bought second homes, or relocated to work in the area around Lincoln County. "Seasoned Just Right", describes an ideal climate that has made Ruidoso a favorite getaway for outdoor activities. Located at an elevation of 6500 to 7000 ft., the area experiences seasonal changes with spring, summer & fall conditions very desirable.
Ruidoso's climate reflects its mountain location. Summers are pleasant, characterized by warm days, cool nights, and plenty of sunshine. Early in the Autumn season, high daily temperatures average 70 degrees. Indian summer conditions often run through October. Snow may be abundant for winter activities on the mountain, while temperatures in the village are still comfortable for hiking, running, or even golf. Spring and Fall conditions are normally cool and dry.

Located just to the west of Ruidoso is Ski Apache , the nations most southern major ski resort. Sierra Blanca Peak towers above the resort which is operated by the local Mescalaro Apache Indian Tribe.

Built in 1997, The Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts is a spectacular world-class facility designed by New Mexico Architect Antoine Predock. The eight-story, 514-seat theater is housed in a dramatic wedge-shaped structure faced with Spanish limestone, featuring a waterfall and a crystal lobby jutting from the side of the structure like a sparkling diamond.

Education

We all know the importance of a good education, and research in this field is especially important when deciding to relocate. Ruidoso Municipal Schools and Capitan Municipal Schools are the largest public schools in the area. Ruidoso's school campuses are in several different locations, while Capitan's campus is designed for Kindergarten through 12th grade. Carrizozo and Hondo Schools are small K-12 schools each a half hour drive or more from Ruidoso.
